Emergence, by guitarist Larry Corban, is his fifth as a lead player and one that showcases the ensemble and much of his own acumen on his instrument. Corban is joined by the formidable talents of  Harvie S on bass, Steve Williams on drums, James Weidman on piano and Jerry Bergonzi sitting in on four of the album’s eight tunes. The set is a nice mix of ballads and uptempo swingers with this lineup of seasoned pros aptly presenting a selection of wonderfully arranged originals by Jerry Livingston and Ray Evans, as well Corban and several members of the band here. Top-notch performances on an absolutely superb recording.
